Welcome to the Island Life

Hi, I am Claudine, your contact person. WA: +628126081916

Congrats on making it to MB Palambak Island Resort. Hopefully your trip here will be well worth it.

Welcome to the island life, a back to basics experience on a remote island where there is limited electricity, limited facilties and limited anything. What Palambak lacks also makes up for in natural beauty, a place away from the fast-paced, modern life you are probably used to living. Sandy beaches, sealife, jungle & Swamp life, fresh air and pretty sunsets.

if there is anything that we can improve on please give us internal feedback via whatsapp as soon as possible: that way we can make changes while you are there. We appreciate it much more than a bad review after you have left, because we don’t have a chance to change your experience.

What is really important to us is that you have a wonderful time here.

Here is some information and tips that may be of use:

Cleaning your room
We would love to clean your room whenever you would like us too. We can chance your sheets and towels also. Please just let us know.
We will sweep your terrace and empty the rubbish bin outside every day.

COMMUNICATING WITH our STAFF
English is limited on these remote islands. Some visitors take it positively as an experience and a challenge, while others aren’t that comfortable.
You can use Google Translate to communicate, but if it is difficult to communicate with the staff, please do not hesitate to contact me at any time.
BOOKINGS
We can arrange transport (land & sea) & island hopping tours. For any bookings, please contact me directly.

BEER
aFTER THE INCIDENT IN sIMEULUE IN aPRIL, 2023, WHICH INVOLVED AN INTOXICATED aUSTRALIAN GETTING INTO A PHYSICALLY FIGHT WITH A LOCAL, THE POLICE ISSUED A LETTER ON 02 mAY, 2023 BANNING THE SALE OF ALCOHOL IN aCEH sINGKIL. sO UNFORTUNATELY FOR bEER dRINKERS, bEER IS BANNED. tHAT SAID, I NOTICED IT IS STILL ILLEGALLY SOLD IN SOME RESORTS.

BOOKS, GAMES & Snorkel Equipment
We have a little book & game collection and snorkels in the Canteen which you are welcome to use. Please return them when you have finished.
CLEANING UP THE BEACH
Unfortunately many Pulau Banyak locals dispose of rubbish in the water and it ends up on our beach. If you would like to help clean up the beach, we have bags available. Just ask.

FOOD & SUPPLIES
Being on a remote island, all food is brought in from Balai or Singkil. If you are staying for a couple of days and need something please contact me and I will try to get it there for you.

GENERATOR SET AND SOLAR PANELS
We try to avoid using the Genset and use Solar power unless we have many guests and need more power than the Solar can provide.
If we have many guests, or there is not enough Solar due to the weather, the Genset is usually on from 1800-2200 and the Solar Power will be on from 2200 to whenever it runs out. The Genset will also probably be on in the morning before sunrise when we are preparing breakfast.
Be sure to use the correct electricity outlet in your Bungalow (marked Genset Power & Solar Power). If you do not hear the Genset running, try the Solar Power Switch. If it is not on, just let the staff know as they may have forgotten to turn it on in your Bungalow.
For those of you who need the Genset running all night, you can request it to be on from 2200-0600 for Rp.300,000 (for all the Bungalows).

ISLAND HOPPING TOURS
Island Hopping is an activity that is basically centered on Snorkelling, but can also include site-seeing or fishing too. If you would like to try a  bit of fishing on the way, ask to bring a fishing spools along.
The tour is from 0900-1600.
There are several Island Hoppings options .The most popular tour goes to Asok, Lambudung, Biawak and Karang Piring (coral reefs off Biawak). Price: Rp.1,200,000/1-4 persons. Tours to Islands further away start from Rp.1,500,000/1-4 persons. You can share the tour with other guests.
If you would like to visit a particular island like Rangit (the island with the Lighthouse) or Nago Nago Resort (the island with the long pier) just let us know. If you are going back to Singkil via Balai we usually stop at Rangit anyway so that you can climb it and take in the view, so if you are going back via Balai you don’t have to go to Rangit on your Island Hopping trip.
If the weather isn’t sunny, it would be a good idea to post-pone the trip to the next day. So when booking a tour don’t leave it to your last day.
Lunch, Drinking Water and Snorkells will be provided.
You will probably be hungry (due to the physically activity) and cold (while going wet from one island to the next) so bring enough snacks and a towel. You can ask us for a spare towel for use on the beach.
If you are checking out to another far away island like Tailana or Tambarat, you can go island hopping on the last day so that you end up at your next island by 1500. That way you can avoid transport on the departure day.

MEALS
Since there are no other restaurants on the island, we have a meal deal which includes 3 meals a day, tea/coffee and water. This is the simplest option, so you don’t have to worry about ordering from the menu. If you do not want this option please let us know before you arrive. Also please let us know if you have any food preferences or requirements.
Breakfast is a choice of pancakes, omelettes, toast, nasi goring, bihun  etc and fruit; lunch and dinner is local cuisine which includes rice, fish/chicken, 2 vegetable dishes and fruit. Please Tell us your breakfast option the night before.
If you have any cooking requests for the Meals, please tell us the meal beforehand and we will try to make it.
If you would like to learn to cook a local dish, you are welcome to join us in the kitchen.
If you do not like our food or want something in particular, please contact me and we will try to cook what you like.

Photos & videos
Please share any photos or videos with me so that we can use them to show others the beauty of palambak.

TAKING CARE OF YOURSELF
Avoid insect bites
On Palambak, there are sometimes Mosquitoes and Gnats (locally known as Agas). Gnats are tiny, black flying insects that leave you with a small bite that can last for a week. If it is windy they won’t we around, but tend to come out at sundown to sunrise.
Avoid them by:
-leaving the beach area at sundown. i find it works to shower straight away.
-Using insect repellent & re-applying when needed.
-Wearing long sleeve clothing at sundown until sunrise.
-Burning a Mosquito Coil in your room: Just before sundown zip the Mosquito Netting in your Bungalow and burn a Mosquito Coil. The idea is that when you go into our room after dinner it will be insect free. Be careful to not leave the netting door open too long when going in and out. The Coil will burn for about 3 hours. Every room should have spare Coils and a lighter so you can burn another one when it runs out.
Note: Avoid insect bites at all costs. Follow these tips and you should be okay. If you get bitten by you can ask us for Cajuput Oil (Minyak Kayu Putih) to help relieve any itchiness.

Avoid Sunburn & Dehydration
-Protect your skin with a hat and long sleeve clothing
-Drink enough water and if you are exploring Palambak bring your water bottle along (refill it in the Canteen)
Avoid Stomach Trouble
-If you have a sensitive stomach, it could be an idea to switch to bottled water.
